Mexico 1 Peso 1947 to 1949

José María Teclo Morelos y Pavón was a Mexican Roman Catholic priest and revolutionary rebel leader who led the Mexican War of Independence movement, assuming its leadership after the execution of Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla in 1811. He was later captured by the Spanish colonial authorities and executed for treason in 1815. Morelos is considered a national hero of Mexico.

The peso coins bearing a portrait of Morelos started in 1947 and stopped in 1949. Later, in 1970, Morelos appears again on the peso coin. This page applies only to coins dated between 1947 and 1949.
