John 'Black Jack' Pershing (1860-1948) was the general in the United States Army who led the American Expeditionary Forces to victory over Germany in World War I, 1917-18. The Army of Occupation of Germany Medal is a service medal of the United States military which was created in 1941. The medal recognizes those members of the U.S. military who served in the European occupation force following the close of the First World War.
