The Republic of China (Taiwan, Formosa) issued these neat chiao coins with Sun Yat-sen on the front and a map of the nation on the back. They come in various sizes, denominations, and metallic compositions. They are modern coins and do not carry very much value. One issue, the 5 chiao of 1949, is made of silver, and the silver gives it decent value.

*The BV of the silver coin means 'base value' or 'bullion value.' It is the value of 0.116 troy ounces of silver, which changes every day. Go to a web site such as kitco.com to get the current price, then multiply by 0.116. Today the value of silver is about $18 US dollars per troy ounce, so BV = 0.116 x 18 = $2 US dollars.
