These are coins of Gioacchino Murat, ruler of Naples between 1808 and 1815. They are valuable coins. The 5 lire is large and has an ornate coat-of-arms on the reverse side. Lower denominations are smaller with a plain wreath in place of the coat-of-arms (see secondary picture). Coins dated 1812 are substantially more rare than coins dated 1813.
The coin in our main picture comes from Ira and Larry Goldberg where it sold for $3100 during a 2012 auction. It is a magnificent specimen and deserves every bit of its high selling price. As always, CoinQuest is grateful to the Goldbergs for use of their coin photo.
