To understand these nice coins from Bahrain, Westerners must know a little about eastern Arabic numerals. The date and denomination are given in them. See our table.
Also, two dates are given: the Western (Gregorian) date and the Muslim (Hijri) date. The two calendars are about six hundred years apart. They are based on the life of Jesus (Western) and Mohammed (Hijri). The prophet Mohammed lived about 600 years after Jesus Christ.
These coins come in six denominations. All are dated 1965AD, which is AH1385. The denominations are:
1 FIL: bronze
5 FILS: bronze
10 FILS: bronze
25 FILS: copper-nickel
50 FILS: copper-nickel
100 FILS: copper-nickel
As to value, these are modern coins and they are made of non-precious metal. That means they are worth very little: less than $1 each when in circulated condition, about $2 when fully uncirculated. These values apply to all six denominations.
