'Heroica Batalla de Puebla' means 'Herioc Battle of Puebla' and this inscription appears on several different Mexican medals issued at the 100th anniversary of this great battle.
For a medal with the same inscription but different pattern, go to this CoinQuest page [Press Here].
The Battle of Puebla took place on May 5, 1862 near the city of Puebla during the French intervention in Mexico. The battle ended in a victory for the Mexican Army against the occupying French forces. The victory is celebrated today during the festivities of Cinco de Mayo, the 5th of May.
These medals contain 0.500 troy ounces of gold and are worth their gold value. If, for instance, gold is trading at $1200 US dollars per ounce, the base value (BV) of this medal is $600. If you can find an extra nice medal, the price may go up a little.
The medal in our picture comes from Ira and Larry Goldberg and it sold for $575 during a 2013 auction. CoinQuest thanks the Goldbergs for use of their photo. It's a nice one!
