Vaud is the name of one of the Swiss Cantons (states) in southwest Switzerland. They issued several coins with batzen denominations during the 1800s. This page applies only to coins that look like our picture. The 1 batz coins are made of billon, a low-grade silver. The 5 batz coins are made of higher-grade silver.
