Algeria Half Dinar (Barbary Horse) 1992

Algeria Half Dinar (Barbary Horse) 1992

That's a neat coin, Lina. It is made of steel and sports the famous Barb or Berber horse, a northern African breed with great hardiness and stamina.

Catalogs say these coins are worth only two US dollars in fully uncirculated condition. I don't believe it. Even though they are modern, and even though they are worth only about 5 US cents at current exchange rates, collectors will probably pay more than two dollars for one. I have seen them sell on eBay for upwards of $10.

worn: less than $1 US dollar approximate catalog value
average circulated: less than $1
well preserved: $6
fully uncirculated: $12
