Pakistan 1/4, 1/2, and 1 Rupee 1949 to 1951

Pakistan 1/4, 1/2, and 1 Rupee 1949 to 1951

The quarter, half, and one rupee coins of Pakistan all look like our main picture at the upper left. They have a wreathed tughra on the GOVERNMENT OF PAKISTAN side and an classic crescent-and-star pattern on the other side. These coins are made of nickel and catalog roughly as follows:

1/4, 1/2, 1 RUPEE (except as noted below):
worn: less than $1 US dollar approximate catalog value
average circulated: less than $1
well preserved: $1
fully uncirculated: $3

The 1 rupee is slightly more valuable than the 1/4 and 1/2 rupee. A 1 rupee in fully uncirculated condition catalogs for $5.

Now there is a coin to look for in this series. It is the 1950 quarter rupee. You can see from our secondary picture (lower right) that the crescent-and-star pattern is reversed compared to the other coins. Catalog values for the 1950 are:

1/4 RUPEE DATED 1950
worn: $3 US dollar approximate catalog value
average circulated: $8
well preserved: $12
fully uncirculated: $24

The 1950 coin in our secondary picture has a lot going for it. First, it is the rare 1950 date. Second, it is in very nice condition. This coin would probably sell near $20 retail.
