The coin in our main picture at the upper left, is really quite something. You never see them this nice. The King's face and features are fully defined and the coin has excellent eye appeal. This specimen sold for $3800 during a 2014 auction by Fritz Rudolph Kunker in Osnabruck, Germany. The Kunker coin and its high price are an exception. Most of these old silver groats (4 pence) catalog as follows:
worn: $100 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $300
well preserved: $800
To give a little more insight into pricing, the image at the right has two specimens, labeled (1) and (2). The first (1) coin is pretty well beat up. It is very worn and has apparently been cleaned with an abrasive tool, as noted by the streak marks across the king's face. The (1) coin would probably sell retail for $50 US dollars. The second coin is much more desirable. Some detail remains and there is no damage other than wear. The (2) coin would probably sell retail for $500.
