Token Great Britain (Conder) Norwich Plough and Shuttle 1794

During the late 1700s and early 1800s there was enough currency to support commerce in the big cities, but rural areas of Great Britain suffered from coin shortages. Merchants and others would produce their own coinage in the form, usually, of penny and half penny tokens. A man named Conder cataloged the thousands of different patterns, and they became known as 'Conder Tokens.' The web site for the Conder Token Collector's Club appears at this link [PRESS HERE].
