Hello nurfk,
Coins like this draw a specialized following of coin collectors and, because they are not of general interest, their values tend to be uniform and lower than one might expect:
worn: $15 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $40
well preserved: $80
A very worn coin with major issues, such as a bent or cleaned coin, will catalog for as little as $5 to $10.
Nurfk sent us this picture of his or her coin. It is a very interesting piece.
In general, 12 Einen Reichs Thaler means 1/12th of a Thaler (or Taler) within the old German states before the Empire congealed in 1871. The 'FRID' annotation appears to be Friedrich III, indicating origins from the old German State of Prussia.
CoinQuest is no expert in such pieces, but Zach Beasley of Beast Coins is. He writes:
Hello Paul,
This silver coin catalogs in Krause (KM 619) between $10 (VG) - $ 65 (EF).
German States-Brandenburg-Prussia, Maiden Mint, Minted under Friedrich III (1688-1701). Although Krause lists most of the mintmasters, wardens and cutters for this period, the Maiden mint is not in the list and the WH mintmaster is not listed under any other mint. Also, this is a one-year type and no other 1/12 thaler issues are catalogued from Maiden in Krause.
Best regards,
--Zach Beasley
