US Prophecy of the Mayan Long-Count Calendar 2012

Medal US Prophecy of the Mayan Long-Count Calendar 2012

This medal was created during the rise of the popular doomsday theory which (supposedly) showed us that the end of a cycle on the Mayan long-count calendar would correspond with the end of the world.

In reality, it only marked the beginning of a new long-count cycle. If you're reading this, then you are aware that the world did in fact continue to exist after the previous cycle ended on December 21, 2012.

Nonetheless, this was a great time for sellers of end-of-the-world novelty items, ranging from shirts to books to mugs to numismatics. This medal was one of the more popular designs that popped up during this time.

Most of them are 40-44mm in diameter and made of bronze. There are also gold-clad, silver-clad, and even pure silver versions out there. The non-silver versions are worth $5 to $10 in perfect condition. The pure silver version weighs about 1 1/2 ounces and has a retail value of $100.

Please note that all values on this page are approximate catalog values. Be sure you understand how catalog values work. They are inflated values that are normally higher than actual buy and sell values. Refer to our Terminology page for a complete description of catalog values.
