Germany (Trier) 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 Pfennig (FGC, JPC, and CWC Monograms) 1748 to 1789

The Roman Catholic diocese of Trier, in English traditionally known as Treves, is a diocese of the Latin Rite of the Roman Catholic church in Germany. Back in the 1700s, it was an archbishopric, or principality run by a church bishop. Trier was one of the most important states of the Holy Roman Empire.

Like most old-time German states, Trier had its own rulers and issued its own coinage. Elaborate monograms of the rulers appear on these copper pfennigs:

Monogram FGC: Franz Georg von Schonborn-Pukheim, 1729 - 1756
Monogram JPC: Johann Philipp von Walderdorff, 1758 - 1768
Monogram CWC: Clemens Wenzel, 1768 - 1802

To evaluate your coin, first determine its monogram and denomination (1, 2, 3, 4 or 6 pfennigs), then use the listings below. The example in our main picture (top left) is currently on sale by Manfred Olding in Osnabruck. Olding's asking price is $25 US dollars, a good price for a nice-looking coin. This coin is worn, but it has terrific eye appeal, and that keeps the value high. Most any collector would enjoy having Olding's coin in their collection. CoinQuest thanks Manfred Olding for use of their coin photo.
