Great Britain Farthings 1672 to 1724

Great Britain Farthings 1672 to 1724

Look at the fully uncirculated farthing in the picture. It's gorgeous. It comes from our favorite web site about farthings, AboutFarthings.com.

Coins with dates between 1672 and 1724 bear portraits of the various British monarchs, but all have BRITANNIA on the reverse side. She looks a bit spiffier in our modern rendition than she does on these old copper farthings.

Some farthings were made of tin and silver, and some copper coins, pennies and half pennies, have similar designs but are larger than a farthing (farthings generally run 22 mm in diameter, see below). As a further complication, 1/3 and 1/2 farthings were also issued with similar patterns. This page presents a high-level listing of copper farthings and their approximate catalog values. If you want detailed information on all farthings and related coinage, the best place is AboutFarthings.com. Our catalog values below must be adjusted according to the concepts of our Terminology page.

coins dated 1717 are more rare; multiply these values by two

Contemporary counterfeits are common for the more valuable pieces. Jacob's coin with King George on both sides is an obvious fake.
