These coins from Luxembourg all have similar characteristics: ruler Jean is on the front, and the denomination is on the back in bold block numerals crowned with a crown. Some reverse sides have a wreath and others contain the inscription LETZEBUERG. Metallic composition varies:
1 FRANC: 1965 to 1995 in copper-nickel and nickel-clad steel
5 FRANCS: 1971 to 1995 in brass
10 FRANCS: 1971 to 1980 in nickel
20 FRANCS: 1980 to 1983 in bronze
50 FRANCS: 1987 to 1995 in nickel
These are modern coins made of non-precious metal, so they all carry low value. All denominations and all dates are worth less than $1 US dollar each when circulated. When fully uncirculated, the catalog values run like this:
FULLY UNCIRCULATED COINS, ALL DATES
1 franc: less than $1 US dollar approximate catalog value
5 francs: less than $1
10 francs: $1
20 francs: $3
50 francs: $7
These are catalog values. Read our Important Terminology page to understand how catalog values work.
