Italy (Lombardy Venetia) Soldo and 5/10 Soldo 1862

Italy (Lombardy Venetia) Soldo and 5/10 Soldo 1862

These coins, 1 soldo and 5/10 soldo, come from the old Italian State of Lombardy-Venetia. They bear the inscription MONETA SPICCIOLA, or 'small change.' The one in our image has picked up unusual, but colorful toning over the centuries. The toning does not affect value, but makes for an interesting collectible.

1 SOLDO
worn: $8 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $15
well preserved: $35
fully uncirculated: $65

The 5/10 soldo has a large 5-over-10 fraction instead of the stylized '1' of the 1 soldo. 5/10 soldo are worth about one-half of 1 soldo coins.
