The coin in our picture is amazing. There is a close-up of this coin below on this page. The eye appeal is superb, and you can see every rivet in the knight's armor. It sold for 8000 British pounds (about $12000 US dollars) by Spink in London. CoinQuest thanks Spink for use of the photo of this amazing coin.
There are several variations of this famous silver rider ducaton. Our general page for most of them appears at this CoinQuest link. If you have not read the general page, please do. It is important.
This coin is the Dutch East India Company version of the silver rider. You can see the VOC monogram at the bottom of the CRESCUNT CONCORDIA side. The full inscription on the other side reads MON FOED BELG PRO HOLL IN USUM SOCIET IND ORIENT.
As with all silver riders, there are several variations which should be thoroughly analyzed in person by a professional numismatist. For instance, on some coins the rider faces left instead of right. If you have a nice-looking example, be sure to seek out a professional. A knowledgeable collector is a great alternative to a professional; he or she will be thrilled to look at your coin.
We give only general, very approximate values:
