Token US Fake Gold (Counterfeit)

Any valuable coin is subject to counterfeiting. This page concentrates on US gold coins, but any valuable coin fits well.

Fakes are all worth small amounts compared to the coin faked, as follows:

• Miniatures - novelty items much smaller than actual coins
  
• Oversized - novelty items much larger than actual coins
  
• Wrong pattern - novelties with inscriptions and patterns that are obviously wrong
  
• Legal reproductions - fakes that look real but are inscribed with COPY, WRL, REPLICA or similar markings
  
• Altered coins - genuine coins made more valuable by adding or subtracting details such as mint marks
  
• Counterfeits - coins made by crooks for financial gain
  
• Counterfeit slabs - counterfeits housed in fake numismatic slabs
  

The last three are sinister and should be reported to authorities. The first three are worth almost zero. Legal reproductions usually sell retail for $20 to $50 US dollars.
