B send us this picture of her neat BULAU token dated 1893. It stumped us for a long time, but then constanius over at World of Coins figured it out. The token comes from an East African plantation owned, presumably, by the Bulau family. Constanius even found an auction where one of these tokens sold for (are you ready?) $330 US dollars in 1999. Nice! It is a rare piece.
From the single auction result, we can guess approximate catalog values:
worn: $100 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $300
well preserved: $500
