Engelgroschen, or angel dime, is the common term used for these neat silver groschen from the old state of Saxony. Ruler names Friedrich Georg Johann date the coin between 1500 and 1507.
Coins like this are difficult to evaluate reliably. Each coin stands on its own merits. If the legends and patterns on the coin are clear and distinct, value goes up. If the coin is bent, stained, spotted, cleaned, or mutilated in any way, the value goes down, sometimes way down. Very approximately, then:
worn: $100 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $250
well preserved: $500
These are catalog values and must be adjusted to obtain actual buy and sell values. See our Important Terminology page. The coin in our picture would probably sell to a retail customer for $200 to $250.
