This small bronze coin was minted for only one year - 1940, in the Republic of Panama. The obverse features a nice bust of the Vasco Núñez de Balboa who establish the town of Darién on the Isthmus of Panama. The reverse has the inscription 'Uno y Cuarto Centésimos'. 'Cuarto' means 'one quarter', and thus it translates to 'one and one quarter of Centésimos'.
Values are decent for nice-looking coins with little wear, while worn coins with a tainted eye-appeal aren't worth much, as outlined below:
worn: less than $1 US dollar approximate catalog value
average circulated: $2
well preserved: $5
fully uncirculated: $20
These are catalog values. Use our Important Terminology link to find out what this means.
