Angola 50 Lwei, and 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 Kwanzas 1977 to 1991

Angola is a large African nation in the south western portion of the continent. For years it was under Portuguese influence but became independent on November 11, 1975. Independence has not done particularly well in Angola, as the nation has been in turmoil since. Until very recently, the only coins issued by the independent state were those described here, minted in 1977 and 1991.

The coins come in lwei and kwanza denominations, with 100 lwei in one kwanza. The pattern on all denominations is the same, with large numbers on the back to indicate value.

As to value, these are modern coins made of non-precious metal and they are not worth large amounts. The listings below give approximate catalog values for all dates.
