These are beautiful old gold coins from the German State of Prussia. They contain 0.1109 troy ounces of gold, so they can never be worth less than their base value (BV).
Compute BV by multiplying the current price of gold by 0.1109. For instance, if gold is trading at $1250 US dollars per troy ounce, BV = 1250 x 0.1109 = = $138.
Even in worn condition these rare coins worth substantially more than BV:
worn: BV + $100
average circulated: BV + $1000
well preserved: BV + $2000
fully uncirculated: BV + $4000
The coin in our picture comes from Stack's where it sold for $3200 during a 2008 auction.
