According to the CoinArchives database, this is a silver denar from medieval Hungary during the time of Geza II (1141 to 1162). The database has over 2.2 million auctioned coins, and there is only one of these out of the entire 2.2 million. My guess is that this particular issue is somewhat rare.
The coin in our photo is the one in the CoinArchives database. It sold for 34 euros (about $38 US dollars) during a 2014 auction.
With only one data point to go on, our estimated catalog values are on shaky ground. True value may be quite different.
worn: $10 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $50
well preserved: $80
Remember that catalog values are not buy and sell values. See our Important Terminology page to understand how catalog values work.
