Beloved Pope John Paul II (Ioannes Pavlvs PP II) traveled to Australia and neighboring countries in 1986. This gold plated bronze medal was given to dignitaries during the trip.
There are hundreds, perhaps thousands, of different John Paul II medals. Most of them sell for a few US dollars. This one, however, has the special property of small mintage due to the small number of dignitary recipients. Also, estimates of value are always difficult for papal medals because they hold very significant sentimental value to certain buyers.
Our estimates are very, very rough:
worn: $10 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $40
well preserved: $80
fully uncirculated: $120
