French Guyana in South America issued these coins between 1780 and 1790. There are several varieties in pattern, especially the shape of the crown, and other mysterious aspects of these coins. Originals are minted in billon, a low-grade silver alloy. Apparently forgeries were made in the UK during the latter 1700s, and these forgeries are worth less than billon issues. Also, the catalogs list a silver issue dated 1789.
The date you see the most is 1789. If your 1789 is made of brass, it will be worth small amounts. If it is made of silver, it is rare and valuable. A jeweler can help you determine the metallic composition of your coin.
