Switzerland (Bern) Shooting Thaler 1885
This is an old 5 franc shooting thaler from the city of Bern, Switzerland. Schutzenfest means, essentially, shooting party or shooting competition. Shooting thalers are more common than one would suppose. They are avidly collected.
The specimen in our main picture is in great shape. It comes from Heritage Auctions and is quite beautiful. Most thalers you see are not quite as nice.
