Germany (Saxony) Thaler and 2/3 Thaler 1763
These large silver coins come from the old German State of Saxony-Albertine. They show Friedrich Christian as Elector and carry the date 1763:
THALER: 41 mm diameter, about 0.8 troy ounces silver
2/3 THALER: 34 mm diameter, about 0.5 ounces silver
The coin in our picture comes from Stack's Bowers and CoinQuest thanks them for use of their coin photo. This coin has damage at the 12:00 position, having been mounted as jewelry at that point, with the mount subsequently removed. This damage sends the price very low, even though the coin itself has acceptable wear and good eye appeal. It sold for $160 US dollars during a 2008 auction.
