Hello, Dee -- Over the years, one, two, five, and 20 centavos coins from Cuba were minted in copper-nickel, brass, and aluminum. All these coins, from 1915 to 1972, have the same pattern shown in our picture (the denominations and sizes are different) and they carry low value. Most are worth less than 1 US dollar.
ONE UN (I) CENTAVO: 1915 to 1961, copper-nickel
ONE UN (I) CENTAVO: 1963 to Date, aluminum
TWO DOS (II) CENTAVOS: 1915 to 1916, copper-nickel
TWO DOS (II) CENTAVOS: 1983 to 1986, aluminum
FIVE CINCO (V) CENTAVOS: 1915 to 1961, copper-nickel
FIVE CINCO (V) CENTAVOS: 1963 to 1972, aluminum
TWENTY VEINTE (XX) CENTAVOS: 1969 to 1972, aluminum
Coins dated before 1941 are worth more than coins dated after 1940, as follows:
COINS DATED BEFORE 1941:
UN CENTAVO: $3 circulated, $25 fully uncirculated
DOS CENTAVOS: $4 circulated, $30 fully uncirculated
CINCO CENTAVOS: $5 circulated, $35 fully uncirculated
COINS DATED AFTER 1940
UN CENTAVO: less than $1 circulated, $3 fully uncirculated
DOS CENTAVOS: less than $1 circulated, $4 fully uncirculated
CINCO CENTAVOS: less than $1 circulated, $5 fully uncirculated
VEINTE CENTAVOS: $2 circulated, $5 fully uncirculated
These are catalog values. Use our Important Terminology page to understand what 'catalog value' means. It is higher than actual value.
