This is one example of an old copper coin (falus) from Afghanistan which cannot be readily assigned to a particular kingdom, ruler, or date. There are many patterns and many different minting sites. It takes an expert to figure out these coins. We have asked experts to consider GR's coin, and here is what they said: [PRESS HERE] for World of Coins.
Checking auction prices for Afghan civic copper, generally:
worn: $20 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $50
well preserved: $150
GR's coin is well preserved. It has little wear and great eye appeal. It has not been cleaned or otherwise damaged. The figure at the center front indicates the mint city of Balkh in northern Afghanistan, and the pattern on the reverse may be a fan-tailed peacock. Our estimate is that a collector would pay about $100 to buy GR's coin.
