The Durbar Procession was a public celebration of transition among the British monarchs in India. The most famous was held in 1903 as Edward VII of Britain and Alexandra of Denmark became Emperor and Empress of India. This temple token depicts the procession, and original issues date back to the 1903 time frame.
The token is a ram tanka or ramatanks Temple Token popular in India for the last 100 years or so. Most tokens are recently manufactured and made to look old. Other tokens come from more ancient times. For a thorough treatment of ramatanka, please click to our prime page on these items.
Values for these pieces depends mostly on authenticity. With no sure way to determine authenticity, evaluating them precisely is basically impossible. Looking around the web, and checking dealer prices, tokens made of silver which appear to be authentic, like the one in our picture, carry catalog values as follows:
worn: $20 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $50
well preserved: $80
The catalog values above are inflated values. See our Important Terminology page for an explanation of how catalog values work.
