The North Western (Chicago) branch of the US Sanitary Commission was created in 1861 as a privately funded effort to improve the morale, logistical support, and medical care of men serving in the Union Army during the Civil War. This medal bids assassinated President Abraham Lincoln Memoria in AEterna, Memory Forever.

These medals are quite rare. The one in our picture comes from Emporium Hamburg where it sold for $156 US dollars during a 2012 auction.
