US Flying Eagle Cent (penny) 1856 to 1858

US Flying Eagle Cent (penny) 1856 to 1858

Isn't this a cool coin? I really like the design. Too bad the US Mint produced it only from 1856 to 1858, and 1856 barely counts because only 2000 were minted that year.

(If you have an 1856 flying eagle cent, it is worth a bundle of money!)

Texas dealer Great Southern Coins graciously let us use the image you see here. It is a beauty. Usually you find these coin in well worn condition.

Here are the catalog values for flying eagle cents. These values apply to both the 1857 and 1858 dates:

worn: $30 US dollars
average circulated: $60
well preserved (like Great Southern's): $150
fully uncirculated: $450

These values are catalog values, and apply to coins with wear but without problems such as scratches, stains, and cleanings. For a full description of what 'catalog value' means, please go to our Terminology page.

We like GSC. You can find them at their regular web site, at their eBay seller page, and also at their appealing Undervalued Coin site.
