This coin commemorates the battle of Leipsiz. Catalog values start around $15 US dollars for worn coins, and rise to $60 for coins in uncirculated condition. Be sure you understand what 'catalog value' means -- use our Important Terminology link.
The coin in the picture comes from an eBay seller who will remain unnamed. Although the seller does not mention it in his description, the un-natural appearance of the surfaces of this coin indicate that it has been cleaned, probably several years ago. Collectors do not like cleaned coins, so the true value of this coin is probably $10 or so. This is due to the silver in the coin.
Each coin contains 0.4823 troy ounces of silver. Using a website such as KitcoSilver.com we can determine the exact silver value of the coin. Kitco reports that silver is currently trading at $20 US dollars per troy ounce. 0.4823 x $20 = $9.65.
A coin that is damaged, cleaned, or very worn will be worth this silver value only.
Most coins with average wear will have a catalog value of about $25.
NEVER CLEAN A COIN. CLEANING RUINS VALUE.
