Australia Half Penny 1939 to 1964

Australia Half Penny 1939 to 1964

Hello Monkey -- Australia issued half pennies from 1911 to 1964. In 1939, the date of your coin, they changed designs from a rather plain ONE HALF PENNY in the center of a circle to a more artistic coin with the famous Australian kangaroo, as pictured here. King George was replaced by Queen Elizabeth on the front of this coin in 1959.

Just about all the kangaroo half pennies from 1939 to 1964 are worth this amount:

HALF PENNIES WITH KING GEORGE
worn condition: less than $1 US dollar
average circulated: less than $1
well preserved: $4
fully uncirculated: $20

but some, notably:

1939 worth $15 in average circulated condition
1942 worth $8 average circulated
1944 worth $6 average circulated
1945 worth $4 average circulated

are the better dates.

HALF PENNIES WITH QUEEN ELIZABETH
worn condition: less than $1 US dollar
average circulated: less than $1
well preserved: $1
fully uncirculated; $2
