Thanks to eBay seller Docopp for the use of this nice photo of a Jersey 1/12th shilling. Most Jersey coins have a shield with a rounded bottom. These have the pointed shield.
Jersey is an island Bailiwick in the English Channel. It issues coins with the British monarchs, so these 1/48, 1/24 and 1/12 shilling coins change from Victoria to Edward in 1909 and from Edward to George in 1911.
Here are catalog values in US dollars for coins in average circulated condition:
AVERAGE CIRCULATED CONDITION:
1/48 shilling: 19 mm diameter, $30 catalog value
1/24 shilling: 24 mm diameter, $6 catalog value
1/12 shilling: 30 mm diameter, $4 catalog value
Of course the value goes up for coins in better condition. Docopp's coin in our picture is almost uncirculated.
WELL PRESERVED CONDITION:
1/48 shilling: $100 catalog value
1/24 shilling: $20 catalog value
1/12 shilling: $25 catalog value
FULLY UNCIRCULATED CONDITION:
1/48 shilling: $250 catalog value
1/24 shilling: $80 catalog value
1/12 shilling: $90 catalog value
Don't forget that these are inflated catalog values. Actual values will be lower. See our Important Terminology page.
All the coins in the series are about equal in value. There is one date, the 1881 1/12 shilling, that catalogs for $30 in average circulated condition.
