Some of the older dates on these two mark coins from the Federal Republic of Germany (the old West Germany) are starting to pick up collector value in high grades. They are made of copper-nickel, so circulated coins are common and worth very little. But if you have an uncirculated coin collectors will spend a few dollars to add one to their collections:
2 MARK DATED BEFORE 1966 (more valuable dates are shown below):
worn: less than $1 US dollar approximate catalog value
average circulated: $1
well preserved: $5
fully uncirculated: $35
2 MARK DATED 1966 AND AFTER:
worn: less than $1 US dollar approximate catalog value
average circulated: $1
well preserved: $2
fully uncirculated: $8
The following dates and mint marks may even fetch over $100 in uncirculated condition:
1957G: $150 fully uncirculated
1959D: $250 fully uncirculated
1959F: $400 fully uncirculated
Proof coins, like the one in our picture, are made especially for collectors and can be worth a little more than regular coins.
