When in good shape, like the coin in our picture, these 1 anna coins from British India are worth a few US dollars. Most that you see are well worn, so their value is down, as follows:
worn: less than $1 US dollar catalog value
average circulated: $1
well preserved: $5
fully uncirculated before 1940: $15 catalog value
fully uncirculated after 1939: $10 catalog value
To convert from these catalog values to actual values, please refer to our Important Terminology page.
The coin shown is from King George VI. Earlier coins show other Kings of England. There are also coins minted in copper-nickel instead of nickel-brass as shown.
If you happen to find a proof coin from this series (proofs are minted especially for collectors and are always stored in protective casing) these can be quite valuable, tipping the catalog scales over $100.
There is one very rare date in the series, it is the 1906B coin. Catalog value for an 1906B in worn condition is $35 and in fully uncirculated $500.
