Portugal 5 and 10 Reis 1791 to 1813

Portugal 5 and 10 Reis 1791 to 1813

Portugal minted these large copper coins in 5 and 10 reis denominations around the turn of the 18th century (1791 to 1813). Also at that time the rulership of Portugal changed from Queen Maria (Mary) to Prince Joao (Joannes, John). Joao later became King, in 1816.

Dei Gratia means By the grace of God, refering to the monarchy of the Queen and King, and Algarbiorum means Algarve, which is a region in southern Portugal.

Here are some catalog values of these 5 and 10 reis coins. Don't forget that you must use our Terminology page to convert from catalog value to actual value. These values apply to all dates in the series, from 1791 to 1813, although coins dated 1791 and 1792 are a little more valuable than the others.
