France 1/2 and 1 Sol 1720 to 1724
It is always a little difficult, Marcy, to reliably identify old French coins like yours. There are many, many varieties and they pretty much look alike and have similar inscriptions. If we got this one right, you have a sol or half sol from Louis XV, King of France and Navarre. Navarre is a region on the border between France and Spain.
To be valuable, these coins must be in decent shape. The coin in our picture comes from Alain Cheilan, a respected coin dealer in Toulon, France. Alain's coin is in good condition compared to most that you see. He is selling it for 150 euros, about $200 US dollars. Were he to buy it from you, he would probably pay about $100, using the 100 percent mark-up to keep his dealership solvent.
