Hi Elaine --
The coins in this Willem II series are somewhat more rare than the Willem III which follow. No surprise, the Willem I coins are even better!
The denomination appears on the reverse: 1/2 G, 1 G, or 2 1/2 G (G = gulden) and the values vary accordingly.
Important: These are valuable coins, especially in high grades, and are therefore strongly subject to counterfeiting. Be sure your coin is not a fake! Never buy an expensive coin from someone you do not trust implicitly.
Here are some ballpark catalog values for these grand old coins:
1/2 GULDEN
worn: $35 US dollars catalog value
average circulated: $50
well preserved: $200
fully uncirculated: $400
1 GULDEN
worn: $20 US dollars catalog value
average circulated: $80
well preserved: $180
fully uncirculated: $300
coins dated 1842: multiply these values by four
coins dated 1847 or 1848: divide these values by two
2 1/2 GULDEN
worn: $30 US dollars catalog value
average circulated: $60
well preserved: $200
fully uncirculated: $600
coins dated 1841: multiply these values by four
Remember these are catalog values. Actual values will be less. Use our Important Terminology page to convert from catalog value to actual value.
