These are nice old Canadian medals (not coins) issued to commemorate the royal visit in 1939. Oodles and oodles were issued, and they were sold at post offices in both bronze and silver and in 26 mm and 31 mm sizes. The bronze ones today are still very inexpensive, but the silver ones carry more value than their original 50 cents selling price. Roughly:
BRONZE
worn: less than $1 US dollar approximate catalog value
average circulated: less than $1
well preserved: $2
fully uncirculated: $3
SILVER (0.59 troy ounces silver)
worn: $15 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $20
well preserved: $25
fully uncirculated: $50
CoinQuest thanks Herbie, an interested CoinQuest reader, for setting us straight on these neat medals. There is a good page on them, with more detail than here, at CoinsandCanada.com.
