Portugal 2 1/2, 5, and 10 Escudos (Fakes are possible) 1932 to 1951

1937 is a good date for these coins, but you must beware of counterfeits (see below).

As always, one must be careful of counterfeits for valuable collector coins, especially the 1937 dated issues. You know the history of your coin, and if it could be a fake, it probably is a fake. There are third party numismatic services which will authenticate your coin and assign its numismatic condition for a fee. You might consider one of these. PCGS, NGC, ICG, and ANACS are the recognized services.

About counterfeits, the image above shows that it is not easy to detect counterfeits of this coin. The patterns are identical, but the overall quality of the surfaces are different. Sometimes you can use precise weights to determine authenticity:

GENUINE 2$50: 3.5 grams precise weight
GENUINE 5$00: 6.7 grams
GENUINE 10$00: 12.5 grams

It takes an accurate jeweler's scale to measure weights like this.

These coins fooled me as well as the seller who was honest and gave me a complete refund. Stick to PCGS, NGC, ANACS or ICG graded and authenticated coins.'
