Roman sent us this picture of his cool Russian 10 kopeks coin. It is from the old Russian Empire, when Peter III ruled. The large JO is really 10, and roughly KOntEKb translates to kopek, a Russian coin denomination.
The piece is huge, 44 mm in diameter. subsequent 10 kopek coins were minted in silver and were much smaller.
Roman's coin is in good shape, and that adds value. These are hard to find in the first place, and very hard to find in good condition. Further, there are no dings, scrapes, scratches and other distracting marks and, most importantly, the coin has not been cleaned or polished. Applying copper polish would turn the coin orange.
Here is what the catalogs say about this coin:
worn: $80 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $160
well preserved (like the picture): $320
Be sure to properly interpret these catalog values. Actual values will be different. For an explanation of how catalog values work, go to our Terminology page.
