What a great coin, Gina. Look at the example in our picture. It comes from Munzhandlung Kunker in Osnabrück, Germany and is currently on sale for 3675 euros (about $4900 US dollars). Kunker's coin is both rare and in wonderful condition. These two together lead to a very valuable piece.
DO NOT CLEAN YOUR COIN. CLEANING RUINS VALUE.
The old German State of Oldeburg issued 2 (zwei) and 5 (funf) mark silver coins in 1900 and 1901. They are both quite rare, and the fact that you have one, Gina, is astounding. This is the kind of thing that gets coin collector's juices flowing!
Handle your coin carefully and consider having it authenticated, graded, and encapsulated by one of the following services: PCGS, ICG, NGC, or ANACS. Look them up on the Internet. Do not use other services.
Here is how catalog value runs for these coins. Use our Important Terminology page to understand what 'catalog value' means. Both 1900 and 1901 dates are worth approximately the same.
