Chinese coins are certain to become a major force in worldwide numismatics (coin collecting).
Apparently Mike's coin is quite special. The only picture we could find to use as an example is the exquisite gold specimen from Champion Hong Kong Auction which realized well over $3000 US dollars on the auction block.
CoinQuest thanks Champion Hong Kong Auction and LiveAuctioneers.com for use of their coin photo.
According to several web sites which give insight into such matters, ruthless Chinese rebel Zhang Xianzhong declared himself King of the West around 1644 AD, near the end of the famous Ming Dynasty. Zhang issued these coins (or charms) in copper, silver, and gold and awarded them to successful generals and other military leaders.
If the gold version sells over $3000, the silver and copper issues must be quite valuable as well, probably around the $1000 mark. Of course the coins must be in superb condition, like Champion's, to reach these high levels of value. Worn or damaged pieces will be worth very little.
As with all valuable coins, especially Chinese valuable coins, you must watch out for fakes. There are *oodles* of counterfeit Chinese coins on the market today. Buyer Beware!
