I was a member of the Lutheran Protestant denomination for many years. The denomination is named after Martin Luther, a German priest who spearheaded a major reformation of the Roman Catholic church in the early 1500s. In my view, both Roman Catholics and Protestants today have reaped many benefits from Luther's contributions to the Christian faith.
In an amazing act of arrogance and obvious propaganda, the German Nazis used their blood-stained hands to mint coins honoring this significant religious figure. They minted Martin Luther commemoratives in 1933 only, in 2 and 5 reichsmark denominations. These are valuable coins today, especially the 5 reichsmark.
