Nice coin, Oliver! You mention that your coin may be in VF, or Very Fine, condition. This is one of a bunch of numismatic (coin collector) terms used to describe the amount of wear on a coin. On this CoinQuest forum we only give ballpark values, so we steer clear of technical numismatic grading. However, when we say 'average circulated' on CoinQuest, we really mean 'Very Fine.' The coin in our picture grades about VF, or maybe a tad lower.
As to value of this short series of silver coins, there are marked distinctions that depend on dates. The tables below show approximate catalog value for various amounts of wear. Use our Important Terminology page to properly interpret these catalog values.
COINS DATED 1892, 1896, and 1897
worn: $12 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $25
well preserved: $60
fully uncirculated: $120
an 1892 coin in fully uncirculated condition catalog for $450, much more than the 1896 and 1897 dates (shown above at $120)
COINS DATED 1893, 1894, and 1895
worn: $12 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $120
well preserved: $550
fully uncirculated: $1200
These coins contain 0.336 troy ounces of silver, so they can never be worth less than their silver value.
