King Ludwig III ruled the old German State of Bavaria from 1913 to 1918. He issued one set of 2, 3, and 5 mark coins in 1914. There were about 500,000 coins minted in 2 and 3 mark denominations, and about 150,000 coins minted in 5 mark.
The coin in our picture is a nice one from U. Helmig Munzenhandlung in Bielefeld, Germany. CoinQuest thanks U. Helmig for use of the coin photo.
2 (ZWEI) MARK, 0.322 troy ounces silver
3 (DREI) MARK, 0.482 ounces silver
5 (FUNF) MARK, 0.801 ounces silver
The tables below give approximate catalog values for this coin in US dollars. BV is 'base value' which is computed by multiplying the current price of silver by the number of troy ounces in the coin. For instance, if silver is selling for $15 US dollars per troy ounce (see kitco.com), then base value for a 3 mark is BV = 15 x 0.482 = $7.
Recall that these catalog values are inflated over actual buy and sell values, so the actual price you can get is lower than those shown on this page. To understand how catalog values work, click to our Terminology page.
